Deacon James Sheahan was brought up in Herne Hill, and joined the Cathedral staff as sacristan, before deciding to train for the permanent diaconate to which he was ordained some ten years ago. As well as considerable work with the sick and those nearing the ends of their lives, Deacon Jim is also responsible for the day to day liturgical functioning of the Cathedral.
