St George's has a large number of active groups within the Parish. These include:

  • UCM (Union of Catholic Mothers)
  • Bible Study Group

  • RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

  • Friends of St. George's

There are two schools in the Parish: St. George's Cathedral Primary School (left photo below) and Notre Dame High School for Girls.

The list below explains the different organisations in the Parish.

UCM
Union of Catholic Mothers, who meet the first and third Thursday of each month in the Ledge for group activity and discussion - regular fund-raising to send children to Lourdes.

RCIA
A course for those who would like to become full members of the Catholic Church, normally culminating ina ceremony at the Easter Vigil.

Bible Study Group
Meets every Sunday evening after the 6pm Mass for discussion and prayer.

Catechists
Adult group prepared to help prepare children for baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation - meeting regularly during the Catechetical programme.

APF
Group collecting at home for the Association for the Propagation of the Faith.

Special Ministers
Mixed group selected to help with distribution of Holy Communion in the Cathedral, the Hospital and to the housebound - annually renewable commitment.

FSG
Friends of St. George's - Diocesan mixed group who raise funds for Cathedral maintenance. Committee meets monthly in Cathedral House.

Children's Liturgy (10 a.m.)
Group preparation for 10 a.m. Mass of parents, children, readers and singers.

Ecumenical Group
Mixed group prepared to liase with other churches to advance evangelisation through the local Churches Together in North Lambeth.

Choir
Men and boys who sing regularly during the year at 11.30 a.m. Mass. Committed to regular practices during the week.

Altar Servers
Boys and girls, 7+, prepared to serve on Sunday and special occasions, must be prepared to attend practices.

Contemporary Music Group
Anyone prepared to sing or play instruments at 6 p.m. Mass, rehearsal on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Justice & Peace Group
Mixed group who meet to discuss issues concerning Justice and Peace in the world.

Welcomers
Mixed group prepared to come to Mass early and help welcome parishioners and give out hymn books - certain amount of marshalling entailed.

Hospital Visitors
Mixed group prepared to visit sick Catholics in St. Thomas' Hospital regularly each week, to support them and offer the Sacraments.
